More than 1,500 mosques in the holy city of Makkah are ready to welcome worshippers on Sunday as a coronavirus curfew is lifted in Saudi Arabia.
Mosques have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitised and measures have been put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Doors and windows will remain open during prayers and prayer spaces have been marked to ensure that worshippers maintain a distance of 2 meters from each other.
Although Saudi Arabia will lift a curfew to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on Sunday at 6 a.m., the Umrah pilgrimage and international flights remain suspended.

Hadiyah, the Hajj and Umrah charitable organization, in partnership with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, earlier launched an initiative to equip mosques that have no maintenance and operation contracts, as well as preparing to apply precautionary and preventive measures to ensure social distancing between worshippers.

Hadiya’s General Director Mansour Al-Amer said: “The initiative was launched at Al-Salaf Al-Saleh Mosque in Makkah and will cover 250 mosques. We will be implementing several precautionary and preventative measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 to ensure a safe return to worshipers, placing stickers that ensure a safe distance between worshipers, providing prayer rugs for workers, and providing a tool (the safety key) for those in charge of mosques to use it while opening and closing doors and windows, to operate air-conditioners and lights, and to reduce their contact with surfaces.” (Arab News)

US describes China as rogue nation as it escalated border tension with India

In a hard hitting speech, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has described China a rogue nation which escalated border tension with India.

During an online conference on democracy at Copenhagen in Denmark, he said, People’s Liberation Army of China has escalated border tensions with India, the world’s largest democracy.

Pompeo said, China is militarising the South China Sea and illegally claiming more territory there, threatening vital sea lanes. He said democracies and freedom-loving peoples of the world needed to come together to tackle China.

Pompeo said Chinese President Xi Jinping has green-lighted a brutal campaign of repression against Chinese Muslims, a human rights violation on a scale we have not seen since World War II.

Pompeo said China lied about the coronavirus and let it spread to the rest of the world, while pressuring the WHO to assist its cover-up campaign.

Pakistan violates ceasefire; opens fire and lobs mortars at forward posts and villages along LoC

In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops today opened fire and lobbed mortars at forward posts and villages along the Line of Control and International Border in Poonch and Kathua districts of Jammu & Kashmir.

Defence sources said that at about 6:15 am, Pakistan initiated the unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and shelled mortars along LoC in Balakote sector of Poonch district. The Pakistani Rangers also fired on forward posts and villages in Karol Matrai area along the IB in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district.

The firing and mortar shelling from the Pakistani side started around 1 am and continued for over four-and-a-half hours.

Indian Army retaliated befittingly. There was no report of any casualty or damage on our side of the border. There has been a spurt in Pakistani shelling along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir this year, with over 2,027 ceasefire violations reported till June 10th. Three Army personnel have been killed in the Pakistani firing in the twin sectors of Rajouri and Poonch this month.

Defence Minister holds high level meeting with CDS, 3 service chiefs on situation in Ladakh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today held a high-level meeting with The Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and three service chiefs on the situation in Ladakh. According to sources, after review meeting, Armed forces were given full freedom to deal with any aggressive behaviour by China’s PLA along the LAC.

The meet also discussed to adopt a different tactical approach in guarding the border with China henceforth. Top military brass also told to ensure strict vigil on Chinese activities around land border, airspace and in strategic sea lanes.

Saudi Arabia lifts lockdown, resume religious, economic activities

Saudi Arabia has lifted nationwide curfew/ lockdown and resumed all economic and commercial activities from today. However, Umrah and international travel will continue to remain suspended for now. Gathering of more than 50 people are not allowed. People have also been advised to wear masks at public places.

Saudi Arabia has also announced the opening of all mosques in Makkah from today. Due to the current Covid-19 situation in the country, mosques in Makkah had been closed for nearly three months.

Except Makkah, mosques elsewhere in the Saudi Arabia had reopened at the end of May, with strict rules imposing social distancing and other measures.

All commercial and economic activities are to return in all Saudi cities and regions, though individuals and companies should take into account preventive protocols requiring everyone to commit to social distancing, wear masks to cover the nose and mouth, and which ban gatherings of more than 50 people.

The measures are to be periodically assessed and reviewed by the Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH).

Umrah pilgrimage and visits to holy sites remain suspended. The decision will be reviewed periodically in light of new developments.

International flights remain suspended, as well as all travel activities through sea and land entry-exit points, until further notice, and penalties will be applied against any individuals or facilities that violate rules issued to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Officials stressed the need for all residents and employers to assume their responsibilities and abide by the precautionary and preventive measures, and to commit to all the instructions issued by the relevant authorities in the Kingdom.

Residents are urged to download the Tawakkalna and Tabaud (Distancing) applications on their smart phones, to stay up to date on all health instructions, directions and developments about the spread of the virus.

Following the statement issued on May 26, and based on the reports of the authorities regarding measures taken in light of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the Saudi Ministry of Interior stated that a royal approval had been issued that stated the nationwide curfew was to be lifted across the Kingdom from Sunday, June 21 at 6 a.m.

Sri Lanka celebrates International Yoga Day

International Yoga day is being celebrated across Sri Lanka by Indian missions and other organizations. Indian high commission in Colombo organized a programme at headquarters of Sri Lankan Army in Colombo where Army Chief Lt. General Shavendra Silva and Indian high commissioner Gopal Baglay took part.

Over a hundred army personnel performed asanas under the guidance of Sri Lanka’s renowned Yoga teacher Guru Vyas. The programme was also streamed live in Panadura and Trincomalee with particiaptrtion of army personnel there.

Recorded messages from PM Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa were screened on the occasion. Indian consulate in Jaffna organized a programme where over a hundred officials and students participated and performed yoga asanas.

Essay and drawing competitions on Yoga were also held earlier and prizes were given to winners today.

Indian consulates in Hambantota and Kandy organized similar programmes while several Indian families and cultural organisations are celebrating the occasion at home keeping in mind the health safety norms and social distancing.

India refutes China’s untenable claim with regard to LAC

India has said that attempts by the Chinese side to now advance exaggerated and untenable claims with regard to Line of Actual Control are not acceptable. It said, the position with regard to the Galwan Valley area has been historically clear.

In response to queries on the statement issued by the Chinese Spokesperson on the events in the Galwan valley area, External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Anurag Srivastava said such claims are not in accordance with China’s own position in the past.

He said, Indian troops are fully familiar with the alignment of the LAC in all sectors of the India-China border areas, including in the Galwan Valley.

They abide by it scrupulously and the Indian side has never undertaken any actions across the LAC. In fact, they have been patrolling this area for a long time without any incident.

All infrastructure built by the Indian side is naturally on its own side of the LAC.

The Spokesman said that since early May this year, the Chinese side has been hindering India’s normal, traditional patrolling pattern in this area.

This had resulted in a face-off which was addressed by the ground commanders as per the provisions of the bilateral agreements and protocols.

The Spokesman said, the two sides are in regular touch and early meetings of military and diplomatic mechanisms are currently being discussed.

India witnesses annular solar eclipse, with majestic Ring of Fire

The country is witnessing a rare celestial event, annular solar eclipse today. The annular ‘ring of fire’ solar eclipse, wherein the Sun appears like a ring of fire, is visible in different parts of the country.

The solar eclipse is taking place on the summer solstice, which is the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere. When Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, the shadow falls on the surface of the Earth.

The Sun is entirely covered by the Moon for a brief period. Those places that are engulfed by the dark, dense umbral shadow of the Moon experience the total solar eclipse.

Ministry of Science and Technology has urged people not to use sunglasses, goggles, exposed x-ray sheet or lampblack over a glass as they are not safe. It said, viewing the Sun’s image on the surface of the water is also not safe.

The Ministry said, welders glass 13 or 14 can be used to see the Sun directly with naked eyes. People can make a pinhole in a card sheet and hold it under the Sun, at some distance, keep a screen of white paper.

Image of the Sun can be seen on this sheet. By adjusting the gap between the sheet and the screen, the image can be made larger.

People can look at the shadow of a bush or a tree. With the gaps between the leaves acting like a pinhole, numerous images of the eclipsed Sun can be seen on the ground.

People can also cover the compact makeup kit mirror with black paper, with a small hole at the centre. Reflect the image of the Sun on a distant wall in shadow. People can get a projected image of the eclipsed Sun.

International Yoga Day: Indian Consulate hosts virtual yoga session in Dubai

On the eve of International Day of Yoga, Indian Consulate in Dubai hosted a virtual yoga session to mark the occasion. Addressing the Indian community, Consul General Vipul said, the importance of Yoga gains more relevance in this pandemic situation where the practice of Yoga helps in increasing the immunity and keeping the person healthy.

He also took this occasion to pay tributes to the soldiers martyred at the border.

Approximately 20 members of the prominent Indian community joined the session, practicing safe distancing and other precautionary measures. The entire session was broadcast live on Facebook for the benefit of the larger Indian expat community in the UAE.

The Common Yoga Protocol was conducted by the Yoga instructor at the Indian Consulate Ms Shobhna. The Pranayama session was moderated by Art of Living and the meditation session by the Raj Yoga Centre.

भारत-चीन तनाव: गैजेट्स से खेलना बंद कर दें तो पलट सकती है बाजी

भारत-चीन के बीच हिंसक झड़प और उससे उपजे तनाव के बाद देश में चीनी उत्पादों के बहिष्कार करने का जो विचार और व्यवहार उमड़ा हुआ है उसकी पृष्ठभूमि में 18 जून को एक खबर आई कि अमेजन इंडिया पर वनप्लस प्रो-8 की सेल चंद मिनटों में ही खत्म हो गईं।

अमेजन ने इस बात की जानकारी तो नहीं दी कि सेल कितने मिनट में खत्म हुई, लेकिन इस दौरान इस चाइनीज हैंडसेट की सभी यूनिट्स बिक गईं। वाकई हम भारत के लोग इमोशन में अजब-गजब तरीके से सोच लेते हैं और मशाल लेकर निकल पड़ते हैं कि आज तो सारे चीनी प्रोडक्ट्स को आग के हवाले करके रहेंगे। लेकिन जब उस आग में मेड इन चाइना मोबाइल, लैपटॉप, टैबलेट और घर के दीवारों की शोभा बढ़ा रहे एचडी एलईडी स्मार्ट टीवी को डालने की बारी आती है तो होश फाख्ता हो जाते हैं कि अरे, इसके बिना तो जिंदगी ही बेनूर हो जाएगी। तो फिर हारकर चीनी तानाशाह शी जिनपिंग के पुतले को आग के हवाले कर हम अपना गुबार निकाल लेते हैं और यह मान लेते हैं कि हमने चीन को युद्ध में परास्त कर दिया। लेकिन जमीनी हकीकत इससे बिल्कुल अलग है जिसे देश की जनता समझ नहीं पाती है। वह ये भी नहीं समझ पाती कि चीन बार-बार हमारी पीठ में छूरा घोंपता है तो हमारी सरकार चीनी सामान का आयात बंद क्यों नहीं कर देती। और अगर आयात बैन नहीं कर सकती तो फिर सरकार हमें आत्मनिर्भर भारत का पाठ क्यों पढ़ा रही है?

दरअसल, भारत और चीन के बीच गलवान घाटी में पिछले दिनों हुए खूनी टकराव ने एक बार फिर से भारत में चीनी कंपनियों के बिजनेस और दबदबे को लेकर विमर्श को उभार दिया है। लोग सीधे तौर पर सोच लेते हैं कि भारत चीन के लिए एक बहुत बड़े बाजार के रूप में है और अगर भारत सरकार उसके सामान को आयात करना बंद कर दे तो चीन की आर्थिक कमर टूट जाएगी। लेकिन हम उन तथ्यों से अनजान हैं कि चीन की कंपनियों के सस्ते उत्पादों ने भारत में अपनी जड़ें इस कदर जमा ली हैं कि उनको उखाड़ पाना बेहद मुश्किल है। सच बात तो यह है कि भारत किसी भी देश का इंपोर्ट या एक्सपोर्ट को बंद नहीं कर सकता। इसकी वजह विश्व व्यापार संगठन (डब्ल्यूटीओ) है। डब्ल्यूटीओ के नियमों के मुताबिक, किसी देश की सरकार आयात या निर्यात को एकदम से बंद नहीं कर सकती। अगर ऐसा होने लग जाए तो ग्लोबलाइजेशन ही खत्म हो जाएगा। दिक्कत की बात यह है कि प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी जो कुछ कहते हैं लगो उसे समझ नहीं पाते हैं। उनका कहना है कि देश आत्मनिर्भर बने। इसका मतलब किसी का बहिष्कार करना नहीं होता है। ग्राहक और कंपनी अपने स्तर से चाहें तो कर सकते हैं, लेकिन डब्ल्यूटीओ से बंधी सरकार ऐसा नहीं कर सकती। दूसरी बात यह है कि चीनी कंपनियों के प्रोडक्ट्स की घुसपैठ भारत के बाजार में इस कदर हो चुकी है उससे निकलना कठिन ही नहीं असंभव जैसा है। इस समझने के लिए इन आंकड़ों पर गौर फरमाना जरूरी है कि ताकि हम जान सकें कि चीन की किन कंपनियों की भारत में किस सेक्टर में कितनी हिस्सेदारी है और अगर उनको हटा दिया जाए तो भारत के पास उसका क्या विकल्प हो सकता है…

  1. स्मार्टफोन की बात करें तो भारत में इसका बाजार 2 लाख करोड़ रुपए का है और इसमें 72 प्रतिशत हिस्सा चीनी कंपनियों के प्रोडक्ट का है। अगर आप विकल्प की बात करेंगे तो इस मामले में भारत के पास कोई ऑप्सन नहीं है। क्योंकि चीन के ब्रांड हर प्राइस सेगमेंट में और आरएंडडी में काफी आगे हैं।
  2. भारत में टेलीविजन का बाजार करीब 25,000 करोड़ रुपए का है। इसमें चीनी कंपनियों की स्मार्ट टीवी की हिस्सेदारी 42 से 45 प्रतिशत है। नॉन स्मार्ट टीवी की हिस्सेदारी 7-9 प्रतिशत है। भारत इस बाजार को तोड़ तो सकता है, लेकिन यह काफी महंगा पड़ेगा। क्योंकि भारत की तुलना में चीन की स्मार्ट टीवी 20-45 प्रतिशत तक सस्ती है और भारतीय खरीददार की जेब इसके लिए तैयार नहीं है।
  3. भारत में टेलीकॉम इक्विपमेंट का बाजार 12,000 करोड़ रुपए का है। इसमें चीनी कंपनियों की हिस्सेदारी 25 प्रतिशत के आसपास है।
    इस बाजार को भी भारत तोड़ सकता है, लेकिन यह भी काफी महंगा पड़ेगा। इसी तरह से होम अप्लायंसेस की बात करें तो इस सेगमेंट का मार्केट साइज 50 हजार करोड़ रुपए का है। इसमें चीनी कंपनियों की हिस्सेदारी 10-12 प्रतिशत है। भारत के लिए इस बाजार को भी अपने कब्जे में किया जा सकता है, लेकिन चीन के बड़े ब्रांड काफी सस्ते में भारत में उपलब्ध हैं।
  4. ऑटो कंपोनेंट सेगमेंट का मार्केट भारत में 57 अरब डॉलर का है। इसमें चीनी कंपनियों की हिस्सेदारी 26 प्रतिशत है। भारत के लिए इस बाजार को तोड़ना बहुत ही मुश्किल है। क्योंकि आरएंडी पर काफी पैसा खर्च करना होगा जिसके लिए भारत की कंपनियां तैयार नहीं है। यही हालत सोलर पावर मार्केट का है। इस मार्केट का साइज 37 हजार 916 मेगावाट का है। इसमें चीन की कंपनियों का हिस्सा 90 प्रतिशत है। भारत के लिए यह इसलिए मुश्किल है क्योंकि घरेलू स्तर पर उत्पादन काफी कमजोर है और विकल्प बना भी लिया तो चीन की तुलना में काफी महंगा होगा।
  5. अब बात करते हैं दवा कारोबार की। भारत में फार्मा एपीआई का मार्केट साइज 2 अरब डॉलर का है। इसमें चीन की कंपनियों की हिस्सेदारी 60 प्रतिशत है। फार्मा सेक्टर के जानकारों का कहना है कि इस मार्केट में चीन को पछाड़ना नामुमकिन है। क्योंकि अन्य सोर्स काफी महंगे हैं और साथ ही रेगुलेटरी मुश्किलें भी गंभीर हैं। हमें यह भी नहीं भूलना चाहिए कि अभी भी कोरोना महामारी से निपटने के लिए कई अहम उपकरणों जैसे कि इंफ़्रा रेड थर्मामीटर, पल्स ऑक्सीमीटर आदि चीन से ही मंगाए जा रहे हैं।

उपरोक्त तमाम तथ्यों का निष्कर्ष यही है कि हमें जो प्रोडक्ट बाजार में 10 रुपए में मिल रहा है, वही प्रोडक्ट अगर चीन 5 से 6 रुपए में देने के लिए बैठा है और ऊपर से हमारे देश की 85 प्रतिशत आबादी की प्रति व्यक्ति आय इतनी कम है कि वह चाहकर भी चाइनीज प्रोडक्ट को अपनी जिंदगी से बाहर नहीं कर सकता। कहने का मतलब यह कि अगर हम बेहतरीन फीचर्स वाले स्मार्टफोन और स्मार्ट टीवी के स्क्रीन पर खेलना बंद करने की ठान लें तो चीन से हारी बाजी को पलटा जा सकता है। क्योंकि स्मार्टफोन और स्मार्ट टीवी ने जिंदगी को गुलाम बना लिया है। हर शख्स घर में आटा से पहले मोबाइल में डाटा है कि नहीं इसकी चिंता पहले करता है और यहीं से शुरू होती है हमारी हार का सिलसिला। और इस वक्त कोरोना काल में जिस तरह से हर कोई लॉकडाउन की मार झेल रहा है, वर्क फ्रॉम होम में जिस तरह से मोबाइल और कंप्यूटर उसकी जिंदगी का अभिन्न हिस्सा बन गया है, चीनी उत्पाद को भारतीय बाजार से बेदखल करने की सोच को जमीन पर उतारना चांद को छूने जैसा ही है।

चीन-भारत व्यापार के जानकारों की बात करें तो इस बात को वो भी मानते हैं कि चीन से व्यापारिक प्रतिबंध तोड़ने और उनके सामानों के आयात को लेकर उपजा विरोध सही है, लेकिन वो इस बात से भी इत्तफाक रखते हैं कि हमें इससे पहले अपने देश के व्यावहारिक अड़चनों को दूर करना होगा। उसे कई स्पेशल इकोनॉमिक जोन तैयार करने होंगे ताकि हम पहले आत्मनिर्भर बनें। ऐसे जोन में सस्ती जमीन उपलब्ध कराकर सरकार उद्यमियों को जीएसटी में डिस्काउंट देकर, टैक्स हॉलिडे प्रदान करे, श्रम कानूनों को आसान बनाए तो इस तरह से धीरे-धीरे हम आत्मनिर्भर हो सकते हैं और चीन के ऊपर हमारी निर्भरता समाप्त हो सकती है। लेकिन इस काम में लंबा वक्त लगेगा। 1962 के बाद से हमारी सरकारों ने इस दिशा में काफी काम किया भी, लेकिन जबसे हमने नेहरू की मिक्स्ड इकनॉमी को छोड़कर पूंजीवादी आर्थिक उदारीकरण के दौर में प्रवेश किया और पिछले एक दशक में जिस तरह से डिजिटलाइजेशन के मकड़जाल में खुद को फंसाया, हमारी निर्भरता चीन पर लगातार बढ़ती गई। आर्थिक उदारीकरण और डिजिटलाइजेशन के दौर में जब शॉर्टकट तरीके से हम भारत के लोग चांद को छूने की कोशिश करने लगे तो इसी दौर में हमने अपनी आयुर्वेदिक चिकित्सा पद्धति को भी भुला दिया। उसका नतीजा ये हुआ कि आज तमाम अंग्रेजी दवाओं के लिए चीनी कच्चा माल और वैक्सीनेशन के लिए बिल गेट्स की हैल्थ केयर कंपनियों पर हमारी निर्भरता उस स्तर पर पहुंच गई जहां से आत्मनिर्भर भारत की बात बेमानी सी लगती है। क्योंकि उसके पीछे की नीति और नीयत दोनों संदेह से परे नहीं है।
