The Assam government today confirmed NDFB Songbijit faction’s hand behind the attack in Kokrajhar yesterday. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal said that the security agencies have been asked to take all measures against the militants.
Talking to media in Guwahati today, Mr. Sonowal said that high alert has been sounded across the state. The Chief Minister said that his government is committed to the protection of people and there would be no compromise in respect of security and safety of the common man. Militants killed 14 civilians at the terror attack at Balajan Tiniali at Kokrajhar, while one militant was also gunned down.
State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said that the slain militant has been identified as Monjoy Isliary alias Maodang. The minister said, he was the self-styled commanding officer of the outfit.
Dismissing speculations that the militants were suicide assailants acting on ISIS directive, Mr. Sharma said that militants had tried to escape. Meanwhile, NIA team has collected evidence from the spot and also met a few eyewitnesses. A team of opposition Congress has also visited Kokrajhar to take stock of the situation.
