India today said Italy is misrepresenting a UN Arbitration Court’s order in Italian marine case. Italian Foreign Ministry had earlier said the tribunal had ruled that India should release Salvatore Girone, an Italian marine who is accused of killing two Indian fishermen off the Indian coast.
Official sources in New Delhi said , the tribunal order affirms Supreme Court’s authority and it has asked India and Italy to approach the apex court for relaxation of bail conditions for Girone.
They said possible return of Girone to Italy is strictly on the guarantee of his return by Italy if required. Two Italian marines, Girone and Massimiliano Latore were arrested for killing two Indian fishermen in 2012. Latore is currently in Italy due to health condition.
