Bihar polls 2015Chief Election Commissioner Mr Nasim Zaidi today announced that the Assembly elections in Bihar will be held in five phases beginning from October 12..

Polling will be held on October 12, October 16, October 28, November 1 and November 5

Counting will held on November 8, 20015.  The entire election process will be completed before November 12, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nasim Zaidi said.

CEC said that  Model Code of Conduct has been enforced with immediate effect

As per the law the exit poll will be prohibited from 1st day of poll to last day of the last phase. Special component of Voter Education programme on ethical voting. From today itself single window system will be operationalized: CEC

Out of 243 Assembly constituencies, 47 are affected by left wing extremism, 29 districts out of 38 are covered under left wing extremism.

Around 50,000 paramilitary personnel will be deployed for each phase to ensure peaceful balloting. Apart from the central forces, state police will also be deployed extensively during the elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and an alliance of the Janata Dal-United and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) that has the backing of the Congress will be the main contenders in the polls.

The BJP, which had almost swept the state in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in alliance with Ram Vilas Paswan’s LJP and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLSP, is hoping to repeat its performance.

On the other hand, after ruling the state for 10 years, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is seeking a third term. He walked out of NDA in 2013 snapping 17-year-old ties with the BJP.

In the last assembly elections JD (U) and BJP contested elections jointly. BJP contested 102 seats and won 91 and JD (U ) won 115 out of 141 seats. RJD put its candidates on 168 and won 22 . Congress contested on all 243 assembly seats but could win only 04 seats.

LJP contested on 75 and won 03 seats. CPI and JMM won 1 seat each . 06 independent candidates were also elected. This time political permutation and combination is quiet different. There is RJD, JD ( U) and congress alliance .

On the other hand BJP LJP ,RLSP and Hindustani Awam Morcha( Secular) are in NDA. Samajwadi Party has announced to contest election independently. Six left parties have decided to contest election jointly. BSP has also announced to contest election on all 243 assembly seats.NCP is likely to contest election independently.
