Canada will supply uranium to India for next five years. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced this today at joint media conference with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ottawa. Addressing the conference, Prime Minister Modi said the agreement on procurement of uranium from Canada for India’s civilian nuclear power plants launches a new era of bilateral cooperation.
He announced a liberalised visa policy for Canadian nationals visiting India. The Prime Minister said the two sides have signed 13 pacts in the area of skill development.
Mr Modi said he and Mr Harper are committed to establish a new framework for economic partnership, adding that Canada has the potential to be a key partner in India’s development.
The Canadian Prime Minister said his country will further deepen the cooperation on counter-terrorism with India.
Under the agreement on supply of uranium to India, Canada will supply three thousand tonnes of uranium. The supply will start from this year.
