The veteran South Indian film actor Manorama passed away in Chennai last night following a cardiac arrest. She was 78. Fondly called as “Aachchi,” she has performed in versatile supporting roles in more than a thousand films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. She has acted with five chief ministers like Annadurai, MG Ramachandran, NT Rama Rao, M. Karunanidhi and J.Jayalalithaa and has performed with five generations of actors.
Manorama’s name appeared in the Guinness Book of Records for acting in the most number of films. Apart from movies, she has also donned different roles in more than a thousand dramas in Tamil. Many prominent film actors have expressed their deep condolences for her demise. Her last rites will be held in Chennai this evening, as said by her family members.
