Five new sites and serial and transnational proposals have been included in India’s UNESCO Tentative List, increasing India’s count to 78. The newly added sites include the Buddhist murals of Bagh Cave Paintings, Group of Temples of the Chambal Valley, the Gupta-era Udaigiri Caves, and the tribal legacy of Ginnorgarh.
It also includes the Sites of Satyagraha, which is a serial transnational proposal connecting India and South Africa. In a social media post, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that these additions reflect the extraordinary diversity of India’s heritage. Mr Shekhawat said that this progress reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to preserve, protect and showcase India’s civilisational heritage on the global stage.
