The BJP on Tuesday reacted in a cautious but caustic manner to Sonia Gandhi’s dinner with various opposition parties and said the move in effect shows “no confidence” on Congress President Rahul Gandhi and that he has to still depend on his mother.
“This dinner shows no confidence on Rahul Gandhi showing that the Congress president still needs to latch on to his mother,” BJP spokesman GVL Narsimha Rao told India Today TV.
He said this dinner on Tuesday evening comes in contrast to the hype created about three months back on Rahul Gandhi taking over as Congress president by replacing his aging mother.
Moreover, he said the coalition politics either in 1970s during the tenure of Indira Gandhi or in 1990s at the fag end of P V Narasimha Rao government was “successful” only when the government of the day was “hugely unpopular”.
This is not the case at present, he maintained and pointed that while the Narendra Modi government is immensely “popular”;
– in contrast the people are getting “disappointed” with the opposition parties.
