Chief of Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar had been taken hostage during coup attempt

ANKARA

Turkish Chief of Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar was rescued from pro-coup soldiers Saturday during an operation at an air base in Ankara.

Gen. Akar, who had been held hostage during a coup attempt launched Friday night, was escorted to a safe place after a group of soldiers recovered him from the air force base in the north of the capital, reports Turkish news agaency Anadulo.

Meanwhile, special operations police captured the Gendarmerie General Command and neutralized pro-coup soldiers.
