The full bench of Election Commission today held a meeting, through video conferencing, with West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer, CEO and top administrative officials of the State to review yesterday’s polling and put in place arrangements for the 30th April fifth phase polling.
The Commission sources said that Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. Nasim Zaidi directed the officers to guard against pre and post poll violence by maintaining strict security in sensitive pockets and take immediate steps to prevent entry of outsiders in Kolkata Dakshin and the districts of Hooghly and 24-Paragans Dakshin going to the polls in the next phase. The Central security forces have started moving to the areas and area domination began today.
A Congress delegation today met the state CEO and complained that outsider trouble mongers are entering the Hooghly district to aid and abet the ruling party terror. The party leaders asked for urgent preventive measures.
According to the Commission sources a total of 680 companies of the Central security forces are being deployed along with 26 thousand state Police personnel for the polling for 53 seats on Saturday. Strict vigil and nakabandi has already been launched on the river and road routes leading to the polling districts. The checking and vigil will continue through the nights as well.
