Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi directed the Transport Department to be stringent in issuing driving licences and fitness certificate to vehicles in view of rising road accidents in the state. In a statement, Mr. Gogoi also asked the Transport Department to take punitive measures against drivers under the influence of liquor.
The Chief Minister also asked IIT, Guwahati to come up with a comprehensive road safety and management plan. Over 30 persons were killed and 100 injured during last a few days in road accidents in Assam.
