Srinagar: Violence erupted in parts of the Kashmir Valley today after a victim of a bomb attack on a truck in Udhampur on October 9 died in Delhi Safdarjang Hospital.

Zahid Rasool Bhat, who was being treated for serious burn injuries in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, died early on Sunday, a police officer said.

Bhat and another Kashmiri from Anantnag district, Showkat Ahmad Dar, 35, sustained major injuries when a mob hurled a petrol bomb on their stationary truck at Udhampur on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

Meanwhile five out of eight persons, accused of being involved in an attack on a truck on Srinagar-Jammu highway at Udhampur on October 9, have been booked under Public Safety Act, Jammu Kashmir government said on Sunday.

Pertinently, the action comes on a day a Kashmiri trucker Zahid Rasool Bhat who was injured during the attack, succumbed at a hospital in Delhi.

Seven persons were arrested for criminal assault on the truck and searches are on for one absconding, a government handout said today.

“District Police submitted a dossier of five persons involved in the attack having a criminal history and several FIRs already lodged against them. These persons have been booked for planning and executing a criminal conspiracy aiming at disturbing peace and public order in the state under a pre-designed and motivated plan,” the statement said.

“The District Magistrate, after examining the dossiers and involvement of accused in a series of criminal acts including the deadly attack with combustible material on a Kashmir bound truck, issued warrants for detention of the accused under the stringent Public Safety Act and lodging them in Central Jail.

The separatists have called for a shutdown in the Kashmir Valley on Monday.

Both the victims of the attack were flown to Safdarjung Hospital which specializes in treating burn injuries.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed had visited them at the hospital three days back.
