The ruling Congress has decided to expel nine of its legislators for anti- party activities. State Congress President Anjan Dutta said that party’s Disciplinary Committee has submitted its report yesterday.

Mr. Dutta said that the committee has recommended expulsion of 9 MLAs from the party for their anti-party activities. He said that the party will take a formal decision of their expulsion soon.

Among the nine legislators, 4 MLAs Pradan Baruah, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Piyush Hazarika and Pallab Lochan Das were suspended from Congress for 6 years on 30th of August. The party has also served show cause to the remaining 5 legislators but they have not replied to it.

On 5th of September, these nine MLAs met BJP President Amit Shah to support the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. All nine MLAs are close aide of former Congress minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who has recently joined the BJP. The Congress has 77 MLAs in the 126 members’ state assembly as of now.
