“There was no evidence against him but still they called him terrorist. We cannot accept what America is saying,” said Bukhari in a statement on Tuesday.

He said that the US could not be a judge, jury and executioner. “If he was a terrorist, then the US is also a terrorist country. They have killed more innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan than those killed in the 9/11 attacks,” said the Imam.

Bukhari also asked Indian government to show concern for hundreds of Muslims being killed by Israel allegedly with US help before reacting to Osama’s death.

Terming Osama a creation of the US, general secretary of the Welfare Party of India Zafarul Islam Khan said “As you sow, so you shall reap.”

President Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Maulana Arshad Madani, also not ready to accept that Osama was a terrorist. “I do not believe he indulged in terrorism. The question to be asked is why did US come into Afghanistan in the first place? Who created Osama? Americans did to exterminate the Russians. Now that their need has been fulfilled, they term Osama, who was at one point their best friend, a terrorist. It is symptomatic of the American way of functioning of their constant use and throw policy with countries and people.”
