New Delhi: Speakers at Symposium on ‘Role of Family in Preventing and Rejecting Violence and Terrorism’ stressed the need of spreading awareness among youngsters against extremism and terrorism.
They said that modern technology could be used to highlight the teaching of Islam against extremism and terrorism.
The Symposium was organized by Saudi Students India Club at the Cultural Mission, Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, New Delhi, on occasion of “Family Safety Day” marking the 10th Anniversary of the National Family Safety Program, which was launched by the National Guard Health Affairs, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under a Royal Decree on 18th November 2005.
The Saudi Cultural Attaché, Dr. Dhaifallah Ebrahim Al-Matrodi welcomed the panelists and participants and underlined the importance of creating awareness through modern methods and in the light of rules and regulations formulated by the Kingdom with regard to the children`s rights and their protection from violence and abuse. He also summarized the efforts being made by the Kingdom to protect family and enhance its role in fighting against terrorism and preventing its members from criminal tendencies and activities.
The Academic Advisor of the Cultural Mission, Dr. Zubair Farooqi while introducing the topic of the Symposium said that the goals of the National Family Safety program is to strengthen the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the humanitarian field, raising the level of awareness among individuals and institutions about the damages caused by domestic violence and child abuse and their negative effects on society in the long run, creating social awareness among the Saudi youths and advocating for women and children rights in the Saudi community.
The symposium was chaired by Prof. A.K. Pasha of the Centre of West Asian Studies, JNU. who discussed the issue in a broader global perspective and emphasized the role of Islam and its teachings in fostering the role of family in protecting the youth from being carried away by misleading forces.
Prof. Ishtiyaq Danish of Jamia Hamdard and Syed Faisal Ali, Group Editor of Rashtriya Sahara also spoke at the symposium. While the former made some suggestions on how to make use of the modern technology to enhance awareness about the emphasis Islam lays on upbringing of children in a right direction and also to fight against the misleading propaganda on Islam and Muslims, the latter shared with the audience his personal experiences of over twenty years long stay in the Kingdom and underlined the efforts made and still being made by Saudi Arabia to uproot all forms of extremism and terrorism.
The Supervisor of the Saudi Students India Club, Mr. Imaduddin Fuwad presented vote of thanks to panelists and audience.
