When asked as how he would give his opinion on the Wakf bill as a law minister, Khurshid said he would keep ‘balance’ between the two ministries.
“There will not be any affect on the working of any ministry. I am aware of all the issue of both the ministries. There will be a balance”, he assured.
Interestingly the controversial Wakf bill prepared by the ministry of minority affair headed by Khurshid is currently under review of the law ministry for amendments.
The bill was passed in Lok Sabha but could not be brought to Rajya Sabha following serious objection from the Muslim community. The bill was referred to law ministry which was headed by Virappa Moily.
Now Khurshid himself is the minister of law as well as minorities affairs, it would be a challenge before him to handle the crucial issue.
Khurshid recently said that his ministry had implemented 90% of the Sachar report. He however said that his ministry opposed to some recommendations like the Waqf cadre because ‘we do not want to create a different world for the Muslim citizens of our country’.
