Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today held a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun in Laos. Mr. Singh is on a three-day visit to Laos to attend the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus). During the meeting, he will also address the forum on regional and international security issues.

The ADMM is the highest defence consultative and cooperative mechanism in ASEAN. The ADMM-Plus is a platform for ASEAN member states of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and its eight dialogue partners, including India, the US, China, Russia, Japan, and South Korea. The ADMM-Plus Ministers have been meeting annually to bolster the cooperation between ASEAN and the Plus countries.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Mr. Singh is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with participating counterparts from Australia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea, and the USA. These meetings are aimed at further enhancing bilateral defence cooperation with these countries.
