NEW DELHI: (AMN) The President, Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil Tuesday appointed Mr. Shahabuddin Yaqoob Quraishi, the senior-most Election Commissioner, as the Chief Election Commissioner of the country. Quraishi is the first Muslim to be appointed as Chief Election Commissioner of the country
Mr Qureshi will assume charge of the post with effect from July 30, succeeding Mr Navin B Chawla who will demit office on July 29 on attaining the age of 65.
