Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel informed Rajya Sabha during question hour that over 400 show cause notices and cancellation of license orders were issued against the drug manufacturers in India based on the risk-based inspections of drug manufacturers at over 500 premises since the end of 2022.

The minister has informed us that both generic and branded medicines are required to comply with the same standards of quality and safety as prescribed under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The list of drugs of various companies declared substandard, misbranded, or adulterated by the Central Drugs Testing Laboratories is regularly uploaded on the www.cdsco.gov.in website. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, CDSCO, has trained 22,854 persons last year and 13,007 persons during this year in the administration of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
