Reports of moon sighting are pouring in from different parts of the country heralding the news of Eid, the festival of benevolence and compassion.

Kerala which generally celebrate Eid one day ahead of rest of India would celebrate Eid this year along with rest of the country on Wednesday.

The community leaders (Kazis) across the Kerala took a collective decision on the matter as the new Moon was not sighted last night, as was expected.

In New Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal U P and in other states Ulema have declred sighting on moon this evening and declared Eid on Wednesday.

Shahi Imam of Masjid Fatehpuri, Delhi, Mufti Mohd. Mukarram on Tuesday evening announced that the Eid Moon was sighted on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, UAE and other Gulf States are celebrating the Eid Al Fitr today (August 30). These countries sighted the new moon Monday.

For Muslims across the globe, EID is a day to rejoice after a month of fasting, nightly prayers and all-encompassing spirit of piety. Each Ramadan, the Muslim world undergoes a magical transformation as the believers turn to God in total devotion and prayers.

Emphasis is not just on abstinence from food and water from dawn to dusk but all things that take one away from the path chosen by Allah and His Last Prophet (peace be upon him). While piety, mercy, charity and constant prayers are the high points of Ramadan, this is also a month of celebration of the Holy Qur’an.

It was in this month that the Final Word in the long line of divine scriptures was revealed to Prophet Muhammad. If the Qur’an is a truly miraculous gift sent for the benefit of entire mankind, the manner in which it is experienced throughout the blessed month is another miracle in itself.
