In a major setback for Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court Monday canceled the appointments of three members of Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Commission.

These three members are Ramveer Singh Yadav, Dr Rudal Yadav and Anil Kumar Singh. The High Court said that these appointments are illegal and invalid. A bench of the Court also observed that these three members were neither eminent educationist nor they have any important contribution in the field of education.

While disposing off a PIL filed on this issue, the High court also ordered Uttar Pradesh government to start again the process of appointment of three new members in place of them. The bench also instructed state government that while appointing new members, the selection process must be transparent.

On earlier occasions, the Allahabad High Court had expressed its deep concern on the issue of appointments. Another PIL is already pending before the high court on the appointment of Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Dr Anil Yadav.

His credentials drew controversies and PIL has challenged his appointment while students and applicants of different exams have been raising questions on the functioning of Public Service Commission and its alleged partial role in appointments
