rajnathUnion Home Minister Rajnath Singh Government has adopted a comprehensive and integrated coastal security scheme to strengthen the country’s coastal network.

Home Minister said after commissioning Coast Guard ship ‘Sarathi’ in Goa Friday in the presence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. Terming maritime terrorism as a major threat, Mr Singh said, the government has started the process of security audit to identify vulnerable areas in the seas and along the coastline.

He said, the government has been successful in addressing the issues pertaining to maritime security post the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks which were carried out by terrorists who came through the sea.

The Minister also said, the Director General of Coast Guard has been designated as commander of coastal security for better co-ordination among the agencies responsible.

On the Kashmir situation, the Home Minister said, there is a lot of improvement and the unrest would be brought under control soon.

The Defence Minister said, deployment of additional troops in Jammu and Kashmir was aimed at foiling attempts by terrorists to enter India from across the border and the move has nothing to do with the ongoing unrest in the Valley. He said, Army does not act in internal matters unless requested by the local administration.
