Uttar Pradesh and Bihar witnessed very dense fog in the wee hours today. The MeT Department said the foggy conditions were observed at isolated places over Sub­ Himalayan West Bengal and moderate fog at over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and in Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura.

Fog, humid weather and drizzle played spoilsport in the national capital on the day of the full dress rehearsal for Republic Day celebrations, even as poor visibility hit train services.

The minimum temperature in the city settled at 9.4 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, a MeT department official said. Around 11am, the city received drizzle after traces of rainfall was reported overnight, he said. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 21 degrees Celsius.

“The relative humidity level recorded at 8:30 am was 84 per cent while the visibility dropped to 800 m,” the weatherman said. At 6 am, as many as 16 north-bound trains stood cancelled. Twenty three trains were running late while two were rescheduled, a senior railway ministry official said.

It said, the western disturbance now lies as a low-pressure area over West Rajasthan adjoining Pakistan.

It is likely to cause scattered to widespread rainfall over northern plains and rain or snow over the western Himalayan region during the next 48 hours. Isolated hailstorms are also likely over lower parts of Uttarakhand, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh tomorrow.
