Accepting the “severe setback in these elections”, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has decided to introspect and draw lessons from it.
“The Indian electorate has given a decisive verdict in favour of the BJP and its allies. The CPI-M has suffered a severe setback in these elections. We shall introspect the reasons for this and draw proper lessons for the future,” the CPI-M said in a statement.
The party said big challenges were ahead “regarding the defence of our secular democratic republic, the institutions of constitutional authority, people’s rights and livelihood issues.” The party has urged people to safeguard harmony and to unitedly come forward to meet these challenges.
It also thanked the people who voted for the party. “The CPI-M thanks all those people who have voted for its candidates. The politburo salutes all those who worked in carrying forward the CPI-M’s message in these elections to the people,” the statement added.
The Communist Party of India while acknowledging the verdict of the people in favour of BJP and NDA, notes that they have miserably failed to win any seat in states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh.
The Party points out that it should not be forgotten that the Modi government, BJP-RSS did all kinds manipulations and manoeuvres to polarise the voters in the name of religion and armed forces. They could successfully divert the attention of the people from the real burning issues like unemployment, rural distress and devastating measures like demonetisation and GST.
The Party wants the people of this country to be more vigilant as during the last five years the Modi government has been continuously attacking the rights of all sections of people — workers, youth, students, women. The economy is already in doldrums and with the global economy under severe strain due to rising oil prices, the daily life of common people will turn more miserable. The unity of Left, secular, democratic forces is the need of the hour, to defend values of the Constitution. Determined battles have to be fought by the working class.
