sonia gandhiThe Congress has rejected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charge that UPA government was run by extra constitutional authorities. Party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the  present government is being run by one man that is Mr Modi and he has taken away powers from his ministers. He said, when UPA was in power, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh ran a Cabinet system of government in which his Cabinet colleagues had a say.

Another party leader Shakeel Ahmed denied that there was any interference in the day to day functioning of the government under the UPA regime.

Earlier Prime Minister dismissed opposition’s criticism of concentration of power in PMO, emphasizing that extra constitutional authorities were actually wielding power under the UPA regime.

Mr Modi said that the Prime Minister’s Office is functioning as per the Constitutional provisions. He said, increased powers have been delegated to individual Ministries and many decisions that earlier required approval of Prime Minister and Cabinet are being taken by Ministries themselves. Mr Modi asserted that financial delegation for the Ministries have been trebled and there is devolution of more powers to the States as well.
