A two member Central team has arrived in Srinagar today to take stock of the situation at NIT Srinagar. The NIT has been gripped by tension following clashes among students over the Indian cricket team’s loss in the T20 World Cup last week.

The team comprising a director and a deputy-secretary rank officer will meet the students there.

The team will assess the situation and hold deliberations with the divisional administration, senior police officials and NIT authorities. Reports said, hundreds of outstation students carrying banners displaying their demands tried to take out a march and reached the main gate of NIT on the main road yesterday.

The non local students of NIT Srinagar had allegedly assaulted local students last week after Indian cricket team lost. The institute resumed normal functioning on Monday after divisional administration amicably resolved the issues arising out of March 31 undesired situation.
