All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board has decided to petition the Supreme Court to ban triple talaq. Underlining that instantaneous talaq is in contravention of tenets of Quran, President of the board Shaista Amber said in New Delhi that women be allowed to seek divorce.
She said the organisation will also seek punishment for men who arbitrarily give triple talaq so it could act as a deterrent.
She also criticised All India Muslim Personal Law Board, an umbrella organisation of Muslims, for defending triple talaq in the Supreme Court. Ms. Shaista said her organisation was opposed to a Uniform Civil Code.
