At least 47 people have died in different incidents in flood-affected areas as flood continues to wreak havoc in several districts of north Bihar.
12 districts, including Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, East and West Champaran, Purnea, Kishanganj, Araria and Katihar are reeling under the impact of floods.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Monday took stock of the flood situation. He said, floods have caused huge loss of life and property in the state. He was speaking after making an aerial survey of flood affected districts of Araria, Purnea, Kishanganj and Katihar.
He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prompt Central assistance to Bihar. The Prime Minister today spoke to Mr Kumar and assured him of all support from the Centre to mitigate the situation.
Rail and road traffic has been disrupted at many places in the North and Eastern parts of the state. 24 trains passing through Katihar has been cancelled.
Flood situation grim in several states
In Assam, flood situation remains critical as new areas have been inundated today. The death toll has gone up to 20 in the current surge of floods. Over 32 lakh people are reeling under the fury of floods in 22 districts. Over 2 lakh people are taking shelter at relief camps. Chief Minister Sarbanad Sonowal visited Morigaon district today to take stock of the situation.
In Uttarakhand, at least 20 people are feared killed in a landslide following cloudburst in the remote area of Dharchula tehsil in Pithoragarh District. Rescue operation is going on.
In Himachal Pradesh, 46 bodies have been retrieved from the debris after a massive landslide buried two buses carrying passengers in Mandi district yesterday.
