The Government of India has said that 21 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 15,300 Mega Watt, MW are at various stages of implementation. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh said the present installed nuclear power capacity in the country is 8180 MW, comprising of 24 nuclear power reactors. He said the present installed nuclear power capacity is set to increase to 22 thousand 480 MW by 2031-32.
Replying to another question, the Minister said the installed nuclear power capacity in 2013-14 was 4780 MW. Dr Singh said the annual electricity generation from nuclear power plants has increased from 34,228 Million Units in 2013-14 to 47,971 Million Units in 2023-24.
