The number of dead after consuming illicit liquor in Assam has risen to 102. Over 200 patients are still undergoing treatment.
Most of the deaths have been reported in Golaghat district while others have occurred in Jorhat.

Golaghat Deputy Commissioner said, several people are still undergoing treatment and some more have been admitted.

The state government has announced an ex-gratia payment of 2 lakh rupees each to the next of kin of those who died in the tragedy.

Official sources said that 50 thousand rupees have been announced for those undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal visited Jorhat Medical college and hospital today to meet the patients.

Additional medical teams have been deployed.

Police have arrested 12 persons for producing illegal liquor so far. Meanwhile, a drive against spurious liquor was launched across the state on Saturday.
