Two persons including a police personnel were killed when suspected militants Tuesday afternoon attacked a police post outside local shrine in North Kashmir’s Sopore town in Baramulla district.

Sources said that atleast two unidentified gunmen attacked a police post outside a Tujar Sharief shrine in Sopore town today afternoon, which is around 70 Kms in north of Srinagar headquarters. The indiscriminate firing upon policemen guarding the shrine resulted into critical injuries to 23 year police cop Fayaz Ahmad Bhat of Wadura Payeen Sopore who later on succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

Police official said that a 70 year physically challenged civilian Abdul Rahim Lone succumbed to injuries he sustained in the attack. The assailants also decamped with the INSAS service rifle of the deceased cop. Security forces have launched massive hunt to nab the attackers.

Three police personnel including SHO Police Post Pattan and private cab driver were injured on 31st of last month when militants travelling in a private vehicle fired upon the police checking squad at Mirgund police post falling under Pattan area in north Kashmir
