Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandi inaugurated the 12 Mega Watt solar energy plant in Kochi International airport today. With the commissioning of this plant, Kochi became the first 100 per cent solar energy airport in the world. The 12 mega watt solar energy plant commissioned today is capable of generating 50 thousand units of electricity every day.

This is equivalent to the daily energy consumption of the entire airport. The plant commissioned today in 45 acres of land is having 46 thousand solar panels. The electricity generated here will be transmitted to the state grid and later taken back according to hourly need.
