While the Lok Sabha was adjourned once for 40 minutes in the pre-lunch session, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day after witnessing three adjournments.

As the Lok Sabha met for the day, the Speaker Mrs Meira Kumar said that the Chair is considering the privilege motion on the Prime Minister’s statement on the Wikileak disclosures. The motion has been moved by the Leader of Opposition Mrs Sushma Swaraj. After laying the papers, there were heated exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches when Jagadambika Pal of the Congress quoting a point of order said that such a move cannot be given advance publicity.

In the Rajya Sabha, opposition forced the adjournment of the House for the day. Earlier, it was adjourned thrice with the BJP members trooping into the well of the House demanding a discussion on last week’s Prime Minister’s statement. This also led to heated exchanges between treasury and opposition benches. Amidst noisy scenes, papers were laid on the table.

The issue of alleged corruption was raised by Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley who wanted to know the status of his two notices — one for discussion on the issue under Rule 176 and the other on the privilege against the Prime Minister. Responding to this, Deputy Chairman K Rahaman Khan said the notices were under consideration of the Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari. Similar scenes prevailed in the House as it met after repeated adjournments.
