Police in Varanasi arrested Congress MLA Ajay Rai along with 50 people for creating trouble in the city yesterday. DM Rajmani Yadav confirmed that Rai was arrested from Varanasi Airport. FIRs have been lodged against Congress MLA and 105 others in this connection.
Ajay Rai is MLA from Pindra constituency seat in Varanasi. He has contested Parliamentary election on Congress ticket against Sri Narendra Modi in Varanasi in 2014 Lok Sabha election. As of now, police have arrested over 50 accused in this regard and is trying to nab other culprits named in the FIRs.
Meanwhile, no untoward incident was reported form anywhere in the city after lifting of curfew. The curfew was imposed in four police station areas of Varanasi city Monday evening following clash between police and agitating saints in ‘Pratikar Yatra’. Schools and colleges remained closed today under the instructions of district administration. Markets opened and remained in normal functioning. Prohibitory orders are in force in the town.
Several people including police personnel were injured when saints taking part in ‘Pratikar Yatra’ clashed with police in Gadauliya area of Varanasi Monday. They were protesting against police lathi charge that took place during immersion of Ganesh idols recently in night of 22th September in Varanasi.
