Republican Mike Pence and his Democratic counterpart Tim Kaine quickly launched attacks on presidential nominees Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton at a debate between the two United States vice presidential contenders. The two candidates wasted no time in launching broadsides in the opening minutes of their 90-minute debate at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia today.
Pence, the Governor of Indiana, shot back at Kaine that he and Ms Clinton would know a lot about an insult-driven campaign and then accused the former US Secretary of State of bungling foreign policy with large sections of the Middle East literally spinning out of control.
Kaine, a Virginiaa Senator, said that there is only one candidate who can defeat terrorism and that is Hillary Clinton. She was part of the national security team that took out Osama Bin Laden and she will take out Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
The debate was the only one featuring the vice presidential contenders and came as Clinton has edged ahead of Trump in national opinion polls and in some November 8th battleground states where the election is likely to be decided.
