TMCElection Commission of India ECI, has granted national party status to All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). The party led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has fulfilled the conditions required to become a national party after getting status of state party in four states.

As per the provisions, to become a national party, a political outfit needs to win at least 2% of the total seats in the Lok Sabha from at least three different states or get at least 6% votes in four states in addition to four Lok Sabha seats, or recognised as a state party in four states.

The TMC is ruling the West Bengal and have presence in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. Presently, BJP, Congress, BSP, NCP, CPI and CPM are recognized as national parties in the country.
