External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today flagged off the first batch of pilgrims of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in New Delhi. The batch has 58 members. The Yatra is organized by the Ministry every year between June and September.

Speaking on the occasion, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, the yatra will be through two routes which are Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand and Nathu La in Sikkim. The first batch will take the route of Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand. Mrs Swaraj said, the Yatra which is known for its religious value will also provide cultural significance, physical beauty and thrilling nature to the pilgrims.

Holding significance for the Hindus as the abode of Lord Shiva, the Yatra holds religious importance also for the Jains and the Buddhists.
