Normal life has been badly affected in Manipur following 19-hour state-wide general strike from the last midnight. The strike is called by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System. The Committee is demanding the Government to introduce a bill in the current monsoon session of the state legislative assembly to safeguard the indigenous people of the state. The Committee is also demanding withdrawal of Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrants Workers Bill, 2015 which has been passed recently by the state legislature.
In the state capital Imphal, inter-state and inter-district vehicular services remained off the road. Educational institutions and business establishments including shops and markets remained closed. However, there is no report of any untoward incident during the general strike so far.
