Sri Lankan security forces carried out search operations in all schools today, before they open tomorrow for the first time after Easter Sunday attacks.
Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said security arrangements are being made at every school and the public have been asked not to park cars close to schools. He said designated parking areas would be provided for vehicles transporting children.
Country’s University Grants Commission (UGC) has said that universities will be re-opened after security forces ensure security of university premises.
The Police spokesman said security forces across the country had recovered small quantities of explosives, guns, swords, daggers and knives. He said they will grant a two-day amnesty for people to surrender such weapons as security forces are on high to avoid any untoward incident.
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena claimed that peace has returned to the country as most of the terrorists linked to attacks have either been killed or arrested.
Catholic churches cancelled Sunday mass for the second consecutive day today but a special service conducted by Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith was broadcast on national television.
