MALAPPURAM: Kerala govt has constituted a special police team under Malappuram DSP Pradeep Kumar to investigate the death of a neo-convert, Faizal, at Kodinhi near Tirurangadi.

Faizal, who converted to Islam six months ago, was found dead in a drain at Farooq Nagar early on Saturday. The man had earlier left his residence to receive a few relatives at Tirur railway station.

A post-mortem examination report said deep gashes on his head and stomach caused the death.Police were suspecting that a professional gang was responsible for Faizal’s death.

Police were also looking into the possibility that the gang were informed of his pre-dawn trip to the railway station, probably by someone close to Faisal.

Investigators have questioned a few of his relatives in connection with the incident. Some of his relatives were strongly opposed to his religious conversion.

Local residents reportedly told the police that the deceased had been receiving death threats.
