The winter session of the Mahrashtra State Legislature began today in Mumbai on a busy note with govt tabling various bills, ordinances and supplementary demands. The session is also witnessing protests from the opposition on various issues.
Meanwhile, speaker of the Assembly Nana Patole suggested the govt and the opposition to increase the duration of the session to 7-8 days instead of 2 days decided at present.
Our Mumbai correspondent reports that The much discussed Shakti Bill intended to curb crimes against women has been tabled in the house. The state through supplementary demands has decided to make additional provision of Rs 3 crore to pay professional fees to Special Counsels appointed in various writ petitions filed for Maratha Reservation in High Court and Supreme Court. A total of Rs 21,992 crore as Supplementary demands has been tabled in the House. Meanwhile the opposition expressed their protest on various grounds including Gopichand Padalkar of BJP staging protest demanding reservation for the Dhangar community. Padalkar tried to enter into the premises of Vidhan Bhawan by beating drum but was stopped by police. Opposition leaders also staged protest demanding reservation for the Maratha community alleging that the government is not serious on providing reservation to the Marathas.
