jallikattuThe Supreme Court today refused to hear a plea seeking its intervention in the public protest in Marina beach in Chennai, to revoke ban on Jallikattu.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, refused to hear the plea filed by lawyer Raja Raman to take suo moto cognizance for ongoing protests at Marina Beach where police is debarring protesters to take food and water with them when protest is peaceful.

The Apex Court asked the petitioner to file the appropriate plea in the Madras High Court for relief.

TN govt to enable holding Jallikattu with support from Centre: CM

Chief Minister O Panneerselvam today said after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Tamil Nadu government will soon take steps to enable holding of Jallikattu event with support from the Centre.

He told media after the meeting in which he is said to have urged the Central government to issue an ordinance to enable the sport to be conducted.

Panneerselvam also recalled that AIADMK chief Sasikala has written a letter to the Prime Minister seeking Centre’s ordinance to hold the sport.

The Chief Minister said he told the Prime Minister that Jallikattu is an age-old heritage of Tamil Nadu and a sport symbolizing bravery and that it should be allowed.
