Free Speech in Indian Universities under Threat: Amnesty

On Wednesday, the students related to Left-affiliated AISA and others and the BJP-backed ABVP clashed with each other causing injuries to many. The reason of the clash was an invite to JNU students, Umar Khalid, who is facing sedition charges, and Shehla Rashid to address a seminar in the Ramjas college.

The seminar was withdrawn by the college authorities following opposition by the ABVP and later AISA was protesting against the college decision. A few policemen and journalists were also roughed up during the violence.

Meanwhile, Human Resource Development Ministry has sought a report from Delhi University over the violence in Ramjas college.

Earlier in the day, number of students gathered infront of police headquarters to protest against alleged biased action by the police during the clash.
