Prime Minister Narendra Modi met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg on Sunday. Prime Minister Modi appreciated South Africa’s efforts to carry forward and build upon the decisions taken during the New Delhi G20 Summit. The two leaders recalled the historical ties that form the foundation of India-South Africa relations and reviewed bilateral cooperation. They agreed to work together to amplify the voice of the Global South. They expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in areas such as trade and investment, food security, skill development, mining, youth exchanges, and people-to-people ties. 

Both leaders also discussed ways to deepen collaboration in emerging domains, including Artificial Intelligence, Digital Public Infrastructure, and critical minerals. They welcomed the growing presence of Indian companies in South Africa and agreed to further facilitate mutual investments, particularly in infrastructure, technology, innovation, mining, and the start-up ecosystem. 

Prime Minister Modi thanked President Ramaphosa for South Africa’s support in relocating cheetahs to India and invited him to join the International Big Cat Alliance led by India.

Prime Minister Modi appreciated South Africa’s initiative in convening the IBSA Leaders’ Meeting. President Ramaphosa assured South Africa’s full support for India’s upcoming BRICS Chairship in 2026.

The Prime Minister also thanked President Ramaphosa for the warm hospitality and the successful conduct of the Summit.
