The government today clarified that Prime Minister’s Office has no role in excluding Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy’s name in a function to be held in Kerala. Replying to a point raised by Congress leader K C Venugopal, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said centre does not want any confrontation with any state.

Mr Singh said the union government has been constantly trying to strengthen the cooperative federalism. Mr Singh said the Congress leader’s allegation is completely baseless and without any facts. The Home minister said the socio cultural organisation Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) has unanimously passed a resolution not to invite the chief minister.

Minister of state for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the Kerala chief minister has sent a letter to the Prime minister stating his unavailability for the programme.

Earlier, Congress member K C Venugopal raised the issue and said the entire state is shocked. He said it is humiliation of Kerala people. He said the Prime Minister should reply on the issue.

Later, not satisfied with the reply, Congress, TMC and Left members staged a walkout.
