BHUBNESHWAR: Five people, including two women and a child, were killed when Maoists blew up the ambulance they were travelling in Kandhamal district of Orissa.


According to AIR the landmine blast took place late last night in a hilly and forested area near Brahmanigaon, about 350 km from Bhubaneswar. The ambulance was on a culvert when it was blasted off. The victims were on way to their home near Brahmanigaon after admitting a pregnant woman in a government hospital in neighbouring Ganjam district. The latest attack comes after the Maoists killed a contractor in the area on last Thursday.


Meanwhile in Jharkhand, two Maoists were shot at in an encounter between the ultras and security forces in Khunti district today. Police said, the ultras were hit by bullets during the gunbattle which began during a search operation at Gamahria under Adki police station area.
In Andhra Pradesh, ten Maoists today surrendered before the police in Narsipatnam town of  Visakhapatnam district. Police said, the group led by G Chinakka voluntarily surrendered before the District Police OSD (Operations) Trivikram Verma.
