GSTMadhya Pradesh legislative assembly today ratified GST Amendment Bill. A special one-day sitting of the state legislative assembly was convened for ratification of the Bill. State’s Law Minister Rampal Singh moved the GST constitution amendment bill in the house for the approval.

Initaiating the debate, finance minister Jayant Mallaiya said that Madhya Pradesh will benefit from the GST as it is basically a consumer state. He said that the GST will simplify the tax structure accross the country and bring transparency in the tax system.

Rajendra Singh of Congress demanded that the standard rate of tax should be capped at 18 per cent. He said that the proposed GST council should be given constitutional status. several members demanded that the petroleum products should be bring in the ambit of the GST.

Madhya Pradesh is the seventh state to ratify the GST constitution amendment Bill. Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have already ratified the bill.
