The mortal remains of Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar were consigned to flames with full state honours here today.Anantha Kumar’s brother Nanda Kumar performed the last rites and lit the funeral pyre, amidst chanting of Vedic hymns by priests.
A stream of leaders led by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today paid their last respects to Ananth Kumar, who passed away yesterday.
BJP National President Amit Shah, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ravishankar Prasad, Prakash Javadekar, Dharmendra Pradhan, D.V.Sadananda Gowda, Arjunram Meghwawl, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Karnataka BJP Chief B.S.Yeddyurappa and many RSS Leaders paid their last respects to the departed leader.
Earlier, the mortal remains of Kumar were kept in National College Grounds in Basavanagudi to facilitate the public to pay their last respects to their beloved leader.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his last respects to Ananth Kumar at the departed leader’s residence in Basavanagudi, last night and consoled the family members.
The Karnataka government had declared a three-day state mourning.
