The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will digitally inaugurate the National Legislators Conference on the theme “We For Development” in the Central Hall of Parliament House on Saturday, the 10th March 2018. The Inaugural Ceremony will be attended by the Union Cabinet Ministers, Chief Ministers, Ministers of State of the Union, Presiding Officers of State Legislatures, Members of Parliament and Members of State Legislatures.

speakerThe two day National Conference is being organized on the initiative of the Lok Sabha Speaker Mrs. Sumitra Mahajan on 10 and 11 March 2018. The Conference, being hosted under the auspices of the Indian Parliamentary Group, aims to provide a platform to MPs, MLCs and MLAs from across the country to share their experiences, to learn from each other’s success stories, and to develop a perspective on developmental issues in the light of the SDGs. The Conference offers special opportunity to those Delegates whose constituencies have greater possibilities and aspirations of development.

The Conference will comprise of a Plenary Session on the theme “We For Development” and two Working Sessions on: (i) “Role of Legislators in Development Process”; and (ii) “Optimum Utilisation of Resources in Development”.

The Plenary Session will be held in the Central Hall of Parliament House on 10 March 2018. Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog will make a presentation on aspirational districts and Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry will address the Plenary Session. Dr M. Thambi Durai, Deputy Speaker Lok Rajya Sabha will chair the Plenary Session.

During the Conference, there will be parallel sessions on each of the two agenda items viz. (i) Role of Legislators in Development Process and (ii) Optimum Utilisation of Resources in Development. Each Working Session will have a Chairperson and a Moderator.

J.P. Nadda, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare; Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and Mines; Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Human Resource Development; Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship; Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Defence; Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of Opposition (Rajya Sabha); Bhartruhari Mahtab, MP and Kalyan Banerjee, MP will chair the Working Sessions. There will be in all eight Working Sessions, which will be conducted in the Committee Rooms of the Parliament House Annexe Extension Building.

On 11 March 2018, the Conference will have a Concluding Session in the Central Hall at 10.00 am in which the draft Resolution will be taken up for discussion and acceptance by the Delegates. This session will be chaired by Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation.

M. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice-President of India & Chairman Rajya Sabha will address the Valedictory Session of the Conference to be held on 11 March 2018 in the Central Hall at 11.30 am. The Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan and Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, Arun Jaitley will grace the occasion. The Conference will conclude with the adoption of a Resolution on 11 March 2018.

An Exhibition on “We For Development” will be displayed by the Parliamentary Museum and Archives, Lok Sabha Secretariat in collaboration with Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) for the distinguished Delegates on the Ground Floor of Parliament House Annexe Building.
