National Legislators Conference

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked legislators to focus on the development of weaker districts of India. Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the two day National Legislators Conference at the Central Hall of Parliament today, Mr Modi said, the government has identified 115 such districts which were weaker on various parameters of development.

He said it was now essential to identify the areas where these districts need improvement and then address the shortcomings so that they can come at par with best performing districts. The Prime Minister said, once all the stakeholders decide to change even one aspect in the districts, then we will get the momentum to work on the other shortcomings.

He said, there is a need to work in a mission mode and bring a positive change as the government’s aim is social justice. He also said, public participation is always helpful and wherever officials have worked with people and involved them in the development process, the results are transformative.

He said, working on these aspirational districts will improve India’s standing in the Human Development Index. The Prime Minister a spirit of competitive and cooperative federalism is very good for the country.

Earlier Speaking on the occasion, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan called upon the MPs and MLAs to make sure that fruits of welfare projects reach the last man standing in the queue. She said, all the public representatives have to think together towards development.

The theme of the two day Conference is We For Development. The Conference aims at providing a platform to Members of Parliament, Legislative Assemblies and Legislative Councils across the country to share their experiences and to develop a perspective on developmental issues in the light of sustainable development Goals.

The Conference also offers the special opportunity to the delegates whose constituencies have greater possibilities and aspirations of development.
